A Bridge Too Far?

What will it take for Christians to come to the realization that we are about to lose our religious freedom guaranteed by the US Constitution? This is the most important right that we have. It is more than a nice concept, it is the whole ballgame. WAKE UP, we are losing! We will be told that we can still believe, but we can’t share it with others because it might offend someone. Liberals, who are burning the flag and the constitution will systematically classify portions of the Bible as hateful speech and shut down our pastors and teachers with fines or jail time. For certain, and in the near future, the Church and all Christian charities will lose their tax exempt status. Private businesses will have to choose between their faith and their livelihood. Make no mistake about it, this will be Armageddon for believers and as The Message says, “This is no afternoon athletic contest that we will walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life or death fight to the finish…” Ephesians 6:12

This is not an issue that may happen in the future. It is happening today in America. Christian bakery owners that refused to create a cake for a same-sex wedding have been fined $135,000. Many more have been sued. A retired Christian pastor, with a bed and breakfast and wedding venue in Illinois refused to hold a same-sex wedding at his place and was fined $80,000 and ordered to allow the wedding to occur; other wedding venue owners in Idaho and New York have been sued; and a Christian florist in Washington State refused to fix flowers for a same-sex marriage and was sued by the ACLU. It is happening to photographers in New Mexico and musicians, wedding planners and caterers all over the country who serve the wedding industry. All of these refused because the idea of same-sex marriage conflicts with their Christian belief. If these rights are lost then we can no longer claim to be “One Nation Under God”.

None of these cases have yet reached the US Supreme Court but the brave souls that are determined to stand up for their belief and our First Amendment rights deserve our respect, prayer, thanks and support. Most of all we must recognize the intent of our enemy to destroy the Christian exercise of faith. When that occurs, that will be the end of the church as we know it. The gospel will not be able to be preached and we will no longer be able to bring up our children in the ways and the admonition of the Lord. Once our religious liberty is taken away, we will never get it back.

How can we be passive when the message of the Kingdom of God is being silenced? Same-sex marriage is not just a bad idea but it destroys the American family and the foundation of society. I am joining with thousands of other Christians who believe that the only marriage that is sanctified by God is one entered into between one man and one woman. Our fight is not against the homosexuals or their legal right to exercise their first amendment rights, but against being forced to validate it by participating in it. That we will not do!

“Our fight is not against human beings. It is against the rulers, the authorities and the powers of this dark world. It is against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly world.” New International Readers version of Ephesians 6:12
