Taking the World on Voir Dire
June 20, 2016

Well, here we go my first blog. Last week, I did not even know what a blog was. There is something about that word that I don’t like. It sounds too much like “blah” and some will describe my writing as “blah”, “blah”, “blah”. So, I am going to adopt a new term and call it “voir dire”, which is a legal term meaning “to speak the truth”.

Time is fleeting and since I am 75 years old, I feel compelled to express what I can while I can. My 49 years of practicing law also gives me an urgent perspective to share some stuff, for free, that I can prove by experience and learning. I have decided it is time to quit “practicing” law and start applying it.

Today is my 54th wedding anniversary to the most wonderful woman that God ever made for a man. I can say that legally, spiritually and practically. Since God made her specifically for me, you probably would not like her as much. But you have a spouse or future spouse that God can and will make perfect for you.

Thirty-seven years ago, I met a man Jesus Christ that began to motivate and direct my life in every area. He became Truth to me. His word literally became “a light unto my path” Psalms 119:105. When I accepted the fact that His words are absolutely true and not just figurative, I could accept them all as true. As I read that He has a plan for my life and it is a plan for my good (Jeremiah 29:11), I developed an insatiable commitment to know Him and the power of His salvation (here and hereafter).

I’ll try to voir dire at least once a week and pray that you will listen and heed and then share it with your family and friends. This can be your mission as well as mine.

Voir dire No. 1. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways, acknowledge the Lord and He shall direct your path. Proverbs 3:5-6.

  1. Fabulous!!!! No “blah, blah, blah” at all! Love your comments and congratulate you both on the many years of love and service together. Looking forward to your next “voir dire!”

And this is truth. Funny that we all have to come to a place of adopting salvation as our own. We have to find Jesus not for what we learned from our parents but because of that personal relationship we have. I was saved young but at 25 I made a real decision to not back up. Jesus became real to me. Because of the background that I had in church, I had already memorized so much scripture (which was great) but now I could apply it!

    Thank you for Voir Dire!
