The primary purpose of these voir dires is to discuss the role of family in society and the reality that “As the family goes, so goes the Nation.” The family is certainly in serious decline in America. We kill our children by the millions before they are born. If they make it out of the womb, more than 40% will be born to single parents. Seventy-one percent of those will be relegated to being raised in a poor family. They will be more than twice as likely to be arrested for juvenile crime; twice as likely to suffer from emotional and behavioral problems; roughly twice as likely to be expelled from school and a third more likely to drop out before completing high school. These children raised by single parents are more likely to be physically abused, smoke, drink, use drugs, and engage in violent, delinquent and criminal behavior. When these children become adults they are even more likely to repeat the self destructive conduct they have experienced. When they grow up in a family that is not self-sufficient, they learn a life of dependence and soon feel entitled with no need for marriage.

The US government encourages and enables single parenthood. It operates over 80 means tested welfare programs that provide cash, food, housing, medical care, and many other social services. The low income family may receive benefits from several or all of these programs at the same time that provide real financial incentive for couples to remain separate and unmarried.

The government also locks many single parents into government dependence by providing penalties in the form of reduced welfare if they marry. These anti-marriage incentives are indefensible unless you realize that the government wants to eliminate self-dependence in favor of government dependence. After one generation of welfare addicted children, the ruling class can absolutely be assured of their vote and perpetual office holding. They have no qualms about “throwing out the baby with the bath water.” To our government, children are only of value as pawns

for power. Life is only consequential as long as they are in control of it.

Seventy-two percent of all black children are born out of wedlock and 95% of them will vote to keep the progressives that came up with the “war on poverty,” in power. The correlation is indisputable. This is not a program born out of the good heart of man but out of an evil heart to create two classes, slave and master.

We desperately need to break the government’s strangle hold on God’s design for families as a building block for all society. We must encourage marriage and fidelity between one man and one woman and stop all other perversions that are self destructive. Look at the facts, children raised by married parents have substantially better life outcomes compared with similar children raised in single parent homes. We must give our children every opportunity to be successful and productive but that is virtually impossible when one parent is trying to do the job of two. Most mothers are doing the best they can by themselves but it takes both parents to “bring them up in the way they should go” and expect them not to depart. It is difficult to instill in them godly values if the natural order of things is broken.

God created marriage for a purpose. His plan is to have children raised up in the ways and admonition of the Lord. God’s fifth commandment says that children are to “Honor thy father and thy mother” and they would be the beneficiary of His promise that it would go well with them. (Deuteronomy 5:16)
